“Sustainable growth is about balancing our economic ambitions with environmental stewardship. As we strive to expand our energy production, it is crucial that we do so in a manner that minimizes environmental impact and promotes long-term ecological balance. This includes adopting cleaner technologies, improving energy efficiency, and investing in renewable energy sources. By integrating sustainability into our growth strategies, we can ensure that our development is not only robust but also responsible, preserving our natural resources for future generations”

Ogunjobi explained that resolving the Nigerian energy trilemma requires a holistic approach that integrates these three pillars— energy security, sustainable growth, and affordability.

It demands collaboration across all sectors, from government and industry to academia and civil society. By working together, we can develop innovative solutions that address these interconnected challenges, he stated

He listed the industry challenges to include regulatory and policy framework and financial constraints

“Ensuring a stable and transparent regulatory environment is crucial. Frequent changes in policies can deter investment and create uncertainty. Access to capital remains a significant barrier for local companies looking to expand their operations. Managing the financial risks associated with divestments and ensuring that local companies can sustain operations post-divestment is essential”

The press conference was followed by a Workshop for Media Professionals covering energy and the oil and gas sectors of the Nigerian economy.

The workshop is the sixth edition of NAPE Workshops for Media Professionals reporting events in the oil and gas industry and it was themed; ‘Trends in Energy Transition and AI- Assisted Oil and Gas Reporting for Oil & Gas Media Professionals.’

Speaking about the workshop, Ogunjobi said that the NAPE’s rationale for hosting the workshop is to enrich the quality of the reportage of events in the oil and gas space by facilitating in depth deliberate conversations to address and close the gaps and opportunities in interviews, messaging, reporting and overall coverage of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria by media professionals.

NAPE President-elect, Mr. Johnbosco Uche noted that due to poor state of inflow of capital to the sector, Nigeria has ranked as the 84th in the Energy Trilemma Index, depicting the country below average in terms of energy security and affordability.
