The Federal Government has shelved plans to implement the 15 per cent ad valorem import duty on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and Automotive Gas Oil (Diesel).
This was disclosed by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) in a statement posted on its official X handle on Thursday.
According to the Director, Public Affairs Department of the NMDPRA, George Ene-Ita, the proposed import duty is “no longer in view.” He also assured Nigerians of adequate product availability nationwide.Ene-Ita stated, “It should also be noted that the implementation of the 15 per cent ad-valorem import duty on imported Premium Motor Spirit and Diesel is no longer in view.”
The Authority further noted that it will continue to monitor the supply and distribution of petroleum products across the country and take all necessary regulatory measures to prevent any disruption, particularly during the current peak demand period.
