Fulani herdsmen with estimated 500 cows have invaded farmland in Obafemi/Owode Local Government, Ogun State, at the weekend, destroying over 30 acres of cassava farms.
According to one of the affected farmers, Adeogun Olamide, he received an alarming call from one of the villagers where his farm is situated that Fulani Headsmen had invaded it.
“I was informed that the Fulani herdsman moved in a convoy of a combination of over 8 Fulani Herdsman with large numbers estimated to be over 500 cows. Upon my visit, I was shocked beyond bone marrows; the entire 4.5 acres of cassava were completely destroyed.

Another farmer, Ismail Ajanaku, said: “As of today, over 30 acres of cassava farms had been completely destroyed by Fulani herdsman.Fulani headsmen invaded my cassava farm and destroyed everything. They also invaded other adjourning farms
They uprooted the cassava and fed their cows. These impunity attitudes pose serious dangers to farmers and farming activities as well as complications food security challenges in Southwest”
Another victim, Elder Gbemi Lawal lamented: “I wept today because all my farming activities and efforts were destroyed. My cassava farms cultivated in batches will be ready for harvest as from May/June /June conservatively valued in excess of N4m. I have nothing as revenue streams. My survival strategy plans were completely destroyed”, he stated
