NDPHC expands power access through Light Up Nigeria Project

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is expanding access to reliable electricity for businesses across Nigeria through its Light Up Nigeria Project, a strategic intervention designed to tackle the persistent power challenges facing the country’s industrial and commercial sectors.

The initiative aims to provide businesses with a sustainable pathway to affordable and dependable electricity, addressing one of the most significant constraints to productivity, industrial growth, and economic development in Nigeria.

At the core of the project is the Eligible Customer Project (ECP), a power supply framework that enables large-scale electricity consumers to receive electricity directly from generation sources, bypassing some of the longstanding bottlenecks within the conventional power distribution chain.

Through this model, industrial and commercial customers can access stable electricity supply directly from NDPHC, significantly reducing dependence on costly alternative energy sources such as diesel and petrol generators. This is expected to ease the financial burden of self-generation, which has long undermined the competitiveness of many Nigerian businesses.

According to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, the company is accelerating the implementation of the Light Up Nigeria Project as part of efforts to power industrial clusters with reliable and cost-effective electricity.

She noted that reliable power remains central to national development and industrial expansion.

“Power drives industrialisation, and industrialisation drives development,” Adighije said, emphasizing the critical role electricity plays in unlocking economic potential.

She added that the intervention is not limited to one region, as similar projects are already being implemented in Kano and Gombe, further demonstrating NDPHC’s commitment to supporting sustainable industrial growth across Nigeria.

The Light Up Nigeria Project is expected to deliver substantial cost savings for businesses grappling with rising energy expenses. High electricity costs, combined with frequent grid instability, have continued to erode profitability across key sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, and commerce.

By guaranteeing more reliable electricity supply, the initiative is expected to reduce operational costs, improve production efficiency, and enhance overall business performance.
