The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has restored electricity supply to the Damagum headquarters of Fune LGA and Ngelzarma Emirate.
A severe thunderstorm had destroyed 18 High Tension poles which supply electricity to the affected local government.,
According to a the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Olugbenga Adebola, and the Regional Manager of YEDC Yobe State, Mahmoud Sajo, during the tour of the site on Saturday in Damaturu, said no fewer than 18 electricity poles were destroyed by a heavy windstorm in the last 6 days ago in Damagum, the headquarters of Fune LGA and Ngelzarma Emirate leaving several villages under two towns without supply.

Adebola said: ‘‘Several communities like Garin Daye, Mashio, Bingel, Mamudo, Damagum Town, Dogon Kuka – Damagum feeder and Ngelzarma town and villages were affected by this disaster which severely affected the economic activities of the communities.
According to him, the technical team from YEDC Potiskum Business Unit worked day and night to ensure supply was restored within the shortest time possible.
The Head, Corporate Communications further stated: YEDC is undeterred and will continue to rehabilitate this significantly deteriorated network which the Company met when we took over until we make the northeastern part of Nigeria the commercial hub it was destined to be.
“We have the unflinching support of stakeholders in the region, and we will continue to provide power to homes and businesses according to the Utility’s mandate.
While speaking, Mahmoud Sajo, the Regional Manager of YEDC Yobe State, said the company has completed 3 pilot projects in Kampala Market, Kasuwan NPN, in Potiskum and Sabon Fegi area in Damaturu.
‘‘The network was completely rehabilitated with specialized concrete poles, recline wire, new distribution transformers, and end-to-end metering.
‘‘Customers in those areas now enjoy supply with good voltage and the company had no losses of either technical or commercial. ATC&C is eliminated to zero’’ the Regional Manager said.
