.Company says vehicle is not in its fleet, supports full investigation
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has distanced itself from a truck intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ondo State with 2,145kg of cannabis concealed in a compartment.
The company, in a statement, commended the NDLEA for its vigilance and professionalism in intercepting the vehicle and said preliminary checks showed that the truck, with registration number MKA 960 XC, was neither owned by NNPC Ltd. nor part of the official fleet of the national oil company or any of its authorised dealers.NNPC Ltd. said it became necessary to clarify the matter following media reports linking the vehicle to the company because of markings displayed on the truck.
According to the company, the logo on the vehicle does not correspond with NNPC Ltd.’s current official branding, while the truck does not appear in the company’s asset database.“NNPC Ltd. has taken note of media reports concerning the intercepted vehicle, which bears markings associated with the Company,” the statement said.

The company disclosed that it is engaging the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) to obtain further information and establish how the old NNPC branding came to be displayed on the vehicle.
NNPC Ltd. stressed that it takes the unauthorised use of its corporate identity seriously, particularly where such use could be connected to unlawful activities.The company said it remained committed to protecting the integrity of its brand, trademarks and other corporate identifiers from misuse.It further pledged to cooperate fully with the NDLEA and other relevant security agencies as investigations continue, particularly in determining the ownership and operation of the truck and the circumstances surrounding the use of NNPC markings.
NNPC Ltd. also disclosed that it was reviewing its brand-protection and asset-monitoring procedures and would take appropriate measures, including legal action where necessary, against anyone found to have unlawfully used its corporate identity.
The company urged members of the public and relevant authorities to verify the ownership or affiliation of vehicles purporting to belong to NNPC Ltd. through appropriate official channels.NNPC Ltd. reiterated its support for the NDLEA’s efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria, saying it would provide all necessary assistance to ensure that the facts surrounding the incident are conclusively established.
The clarification comes as the NDLEA intensifies its operations against the trafficking and movement of illicit drugs across the country.
