Nigeria to partner MBH Power to solve metering, national grid problems – Minister

The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu on Thursday, applauded the activities of MBH Power, saying the Federal Government is ready to partner with firm to solve metering and national grid challenges.

Adelabu who was speaking at the end of his tour of MBH Power factory located at Mowe, Ogun state on Friday, said government would support and partner MBH Power to find solutions to lingering meter challenges.

According to NERC, the number of customers on estimated billing rose from 5.83 million in Q4 2023 to 6.43 million in Q1 2024, marking a notable 10% increase. 

On a year-on-year basis, the rise in estimated billing customers is equally significant. From Q1 2023 to Q1 2024, the number of estimated billing customers increased by 8% from 5.96 million. 

But Adelabu said estimated billings would soon be of the past in Nigeria.

The vision of President Bola Tinubu under his new hope agenda is to give to Nigerians 24/7 interruption power supply. 

“We are going to partner with MBH Power in line with this agenda. They have carried out a lot of projects in transmission and distributive segments of power sector values chains. They have a lot of experience to support the government in its efforts to bring stable power supply to household and industry in the country

Earlier, MBH Power Chief Operating Officer, Rakesh Mahapatra, had appeared for the Minister’s support 

“In line with the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu’s goal to provide universal metering of households and addressing the challenges the nation’s power grid faces, we request the Minister’s support by providing us opportunity to work and partner with the Ministry of Power to achieve the vision”

“We have strength and local presence to complete any transmission, distribution projects as well as solar projects. We have a meter factory to meet the requirements of meter supply. So, please consider us and give us opportunity to work under your office”

With production capacity of 1 phase 2,000 per day and 3 phase 500 per day with single shift and annual production of 920,000 meters, the company, he noted, had supplied over 700,000 meters to both electricity distribution companies and Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Mahapatra noted that the company would by first quarter of 2025, commissions 17 nos of transformers under TCN. This aside of 40 substations so far completed by the company and additional eight yet to be commissioned.

“We have commissioned mobile substations in Ajah and Jebba under the federal government’s initiative project. We have completed many air insulated substations in Nigeria and presently, we are working with General Electric for commissioning of 330/132KV Gas insulated substations in Lugbe. Abuja”.

With over 200 Nigeria staff, the CEO said MBH factory is run by Nigerian staff and it is providing solar solutions to many companies and homes in Nigeria especially Lagos.

“Till today, we have commissioned the following transformers: three 300MVA transformers, nine 150MVA, two numbers 100MVA, 17 numbers of 60MVA and five numbers of 40mva”, he stated
