NDPHC Targets More Businesses with Dedicated Power Supply Initiative

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has renewed its drive to connect more businesses, industries and commercial operators to reliable electricity through its Eligible Customer Programme, offering customers access to dedicated power supply under mutually agreed commercial arrangements.

The initiative is part of the company’s broader strategy to bridge the gap between Nigeria’s available electricity generation capacity and the growing demand for dependable power from the productive sector, particularly manufacturers, industrial concerns and large commercial enterprises.

NDPHC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, who spoke on Monday during the commencement of the company’s Customer Service Week in Abuja, expressed appreciation to existing customers for their confidence in the programme and urged more eligible businesses to take advantage of the opportunity.

“To our existing customers, thank you for your trust. To businesses yet to join, power your growth with NDPHC’s Eligible Customer Programme, which offers dedicated power supply and mutually agreed commercial terms,” Adighije said.

NDPHC currently has a substantial generation portfolio comprising 10 power plants with 28 gas turbines and three steam turbines, with an installed generation capacity of approximately 4,000MW. The portfolio represents a significant component of Nigeria’s installed power generation base and provides the company with a strong platform to support large electricity consumers.

The Eligible Customer Programme is designed to provide qualifying electricity consumers with a more direct and commercially structured supply arrangement, allowing businesses to explore electricity supply solutions aligned with their operational requirements. The initiative is particularly relevant to customers whose production activities depend heavily on consistent and predictable electricity.

NDPHC’s generation assets include several major plants developed under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP) and strategically located across different parts of the country. The company has in recent years intensified efforts to maximise the value of these assets by recovering dormant capacity, rehabilitating underperforming facilities and improving the operational availability of its generation fleet.

The company has also identified additional generation capacity that can be unlocked through the rehabilitation and optimisation of existing plants, improved gas availability and the resolution of infrastructure constraints affecting power generation and evacuation.
A significant development in this direction was the recent restoration of the 450MW Alaoji Open Cycle Power Plant in Abia State, which had been shut down in 2023 amid gas supply and metering disputes. The return of the plant to service represents another step in NDPHC’s efforts to recover stranded generation capacity and increase the contribution of existing assets to the national electricity supply.

For businesses, however, the challenge extends beyond the availability of generation capacity. Manufacturers and commercial operators require electricity that is sufficiently reliable and commercially predictable to enable effective production planning, cost management and long-term investment decisions.

This is where NDPHC believes the Eligible Customer Programme can play a critical role by establishing stronger commercial linkages between generation assets and productive-sector consumers.
Delivering the official opening address at the Customer Service Week programme, NDPHC Executive Director, Strategy & Commercial, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon, stressed the importance of a customer-focused culture in delivering value and strengthening relationships with stakeholders.

The event was attended by members of NDPHC’s Executive Management Team, including Engr. Abdullahi Kassim, Executive Director, Generation; Dr. Steven Andzenge, Executive Director, Legal Services and Company Secretary; and Engr. Bello Babayo Bello, Executive Director, Networks, alongside General Managers, Heads of Departments and other staff.

According to the company, a more structured supply arrangement can help eligible customers improve production planning, reduce dependence on less efficient alternative sources of electricity, minimise operational uncertainty and create greater room for business expansion.
“At NDPHC, we remain committed to powering the nation’s progress by strengthening the infrastructure that delivers electricity to homes, businesses and industry”, Adighije said

The programme also aligns with the Federal Government’s broader efforts to improve electricity supply to productive sectors of the economy, stimulate industrialisation and make the power sector more commercially sustainable.
