NCDMB Empowers 250 Youths in Lagos with Technical, Digital Skills

The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has empowered 250 youths in Lagos following a three-week intensive training programme organised as part of its local content development agenda.

The programme, spearheaded by Jake Riley Limited, equipped participants with practical skills in Electrical Installation, Solar PV Installation, Fashion Design and Garment Making, Textile Design and Adire Making, Catering and Food Business, GSM and Phone Repair, as well as Digital Skills and Freelancing.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony and presentation of working tools to the beneficiaries, the Chief Executive Officer of Jake Riley Limited, Mrs. Funmi Ogbue, commended NCDMB for its commitment to youth empowerment and capacity building across Nigeria.

According to her, the selection process was rigorous and demand-driven. “From hundreds of applications, we conducted a comprehensive survey to understand your aspirations and interests. We verified your eligibility—ensuring each candidate was between 18 and 35 years old, possessed at least a Senior Secondary School Certificate, demonstrated basic numeracy and literacy, and showed a genuine commitment to vocational skills and entrepreneurship,” she said.

Ogbue explained that after screening documents and assessing aptitude, 250 motivated young Nigerians were selected to participate in what she described as a transformative programme. “You earned your place here. Remember that,” she added.

She further charged the graduates to embrace excellence as a key driver of success. “As you step out into the marketplace, remember that your skills alone will not guarantee success. It is your commitment to excellence that will set you apart,” she stated, urging them to deliver quality services that would distinguish them in their respective fields.

Mrs. Ogbue also praised the Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, for his visionary leadership and sustained commitment to human capital development.

“On behalf of the 250 graduates and their families whose lives will be transformed by the skills acquired here today, we say thank you. Your investment in these young people is an investment in Nigeria’s future, and we are deeply grateful. Under your leadership, NCDMB continues to demonstrate that investing in Nigerian youth is investing in Nigeria’s future. Your commitment to human capital development is evident in programmes like this one. Thank you for creating the enabling environment for Engr. Abayomi and his team to do this transformative work”, she stated.
