The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Kano Electricity Distribution Plc (KEDCO), Dr. Abubakar Shuaibu Jimeta, has declared safety a non-negotiable core value of the company, directing frontline employees to adhere strictly to safety procedures and ensure they are fully equipped with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before commencing work.
Jimeta gave the directive during the official launch and distribution of new PPE to KEDCO’s frontline personnel at the company’s headquarters in Kano.
He said the initiative was part of KEDCO’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its safety culture, reduce workplace risks and protect both employees and customers from electricity-related accidents.
The KEDCO boss stressed that safety is a collective responsibility and that every member of staff must play a role in maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety.
“Every member of staff deserves to return home safely after work, and this can only be achieved by following safety rules at all times,” he said.
Jimeta specifically directed that no employee should undertake official duties without wearing the appropriate PPE, warning staff against bypassing established safety procedures or taking shortcuts in the course of their assignments.

He emphasised the importance of properly using essential protective equipment, including safety boots, helmets, reflective jackets and hand gloves, noting that such equipment is critical to reducing exposure to workplace hazards, particularly for employees working directly on electricity infrastructure.According to him, providing frontline personnel with the necessary safety equipment is not only an operational requirement but also a demonstration of KEDCO’s commitment to the wellbeing of its workforce.
The distribution of the PPEs is part of KEDCO’s broader efforts to equip its frontline workforce adequately and promote a safer working environment across its operations and service areas.J
Jimeta reaffirmed that the company would continue to invest in initiatives designed to improve occupational safety and protect its employees, customers and other stakeholders.He said safety would remain firmly embedded in KEDCO’s values and day-to-day operations.
