The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has confirmed that improved pipeline security has significantly boosted Nigeria’s crude oil production, rising from a historic low of 960,000 barrels per day in 2022 to an average of 1.71 million barrels per day, with peak production reaching 1.84 million barrels per day in 2025.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, disclosed this at the Parliamentary Roundtable on the State of Pipeline Security held at the National Assembly of Nigeria on Wednesday.
Ojulari attributed the production growth to the establishment of an integrated energy security framework for pipelines in the Niger Delta, noting that the success was the result of deliberate and coordinated efforts rather than chance.
According to him, the integrated energy security model combines legislative and executive policy alignment, actionable intelligence, kinetic deployment capabilities, regulatory oversight, industry collaboration, and community-embedded surveillance mechanisms. He explained that the effective tackling of oil theft and widespread pipeline sabotage has revived production levels and restored investor confidence in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
In his welcome address, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, represented by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, called for stronger collaboration among relevant agencies and stakeholders to address all challenges hindering production growth.Similarly, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, represented by the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, urged participants to assess progress made so far and ensure fairness, equity, and sustainable security in pipeline operations. The Parliamentary Roundtable on Pipeline Security was convened by the Joint Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum Resources.
