Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Power have expressed satisfaction with the progress made on the ongoing upgrade of the Alaoji Power Plant and subsequently passed a vote of confidence on the management of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC).
The lawmakers made the declaration during an oversight visit to the Alaoji Power Plant, where they conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the facility and the ongoing project to convert the plant from Open Cycle to Combined Cycle operation.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the House Committee on Power, Rt. Hon. Victor Nwokolo, engaged extensively with the management of NDPHC, who provided detailed updates on the status of the project and the progress being made by the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor currently handling the upgrade.
The visit, which was described as productive, offered members of the committee the opportunity to gain firsthand insight into the technical and operational efforts being undertaken to enhance the plant’s efficiency and overall power generation capacity.

During the engagement, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of NDPHC reaffirmed the company’s commitment to ensuring the successful and timely completion of the project.
He emphasized that the management would continue to provide the necessary support to the EPC contractor to ensure that the project remains on schedule and that no further delays occur.
The lawmakers, while expressing satisfaction with the updates provided by the management team, commended NDPHC for the progress recorded so far. They also stressed the importance of improved coordination and accountability in the execution of the project.
As part of their recommendations, the committee urged the EPC contractor to provide daily updates on project activities to the management of NDPHC in order to ensure transparency, effective monitoring, and timely delivery of the project.
The Alaoji Power Plant is one of the key facilities under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), and its conversion to a combined cycle system is expected to significantly improve electricity generation efficiency and contribute to enhanced power supply across the country.
