Stop ‘frivolous’ summons of IOCs, oil executives

The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, has appealed to the National Assembly to stop frivolous summons of International Oil Companies and other oil executives as these have long lasting negative effects on investments in Nigeria.
The Minister who was speaking at the 2025 Nigeria oil and gas conference in Abuja, said any summon by the National Assembly of the IoCs are reported to their home countries and in turn, deterred investments into the country.
Lokpobiri stated that as a result of stability of policy direction through the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), Nigerian crude oil production has increased by 300,000 barrels per day within two years to 1.745 million barrels per day.
“To sustain this growth, we need to sustain capacity building in the Nigerian oil sector”
He appealed to oil operators with abandoned oil fields to resuscitate them in order to achieve 2 million barrels per day by December 2025 in line with the Presidential directive.
